SunSmart Policy




SunSmart Policy


The health of members and supporters is of primary concern to Woodberry & District Athletic
Centre Inc.
Woodberry & District Athletic Centre Inc. will actively seek to promote, encourage and
support sun protection at meetings, training and competitions (local, regional, state and
national).
Where possible Woodberry & District Athletic Centre Inc. will:
Consider the reasons for and appropriateness of any rules that prevent the
implementation of sun protection strategies.
Schedule activities outside the hours of 10am and 2pm (11am and 3pm daylight saving
time).
Provide SPF 30+ broad spectrum water resistant sunscreen for members and make it
available for sale and /or use to spectators.
Incorporate the SunSmart clothing design features into uniforms. (Refer to Play your
part in SunSmart Sport, Guidelines for Sporting Organisations by the Cancer Council
dated June 1999).
Encourage members and supporters to wear a hat that complies with the SunSmart
recommendations while participating in Centre activities. Investigate the inclusion of a
SunSmart hat into Woodberry & District Athletic Centre's uniform. (Refer to Play your
part in SunSmart Sport, Guidelines for Sporting Organisations by the Cancer Council
dated June 1999).
Make maximum use of existing shade at facilities. When shade is not adequate,
Woodberry & District Athletic Centre Inc. will seek to work with relevant authorities and
the community to provide more shade at sporting facilities; and will endeavour to
provide temporary shade until adequate shade is provided.
Provide portable shade structures at Saturday morning competitions and at carnivals
held away from Woodberry Oval
Promote sun safety through Woodberry & District Athletic Centre's Handbook,
newsletters, brochures and over the public address system at competitions.
Encourage senior athletes, coaches, officials, members in prominent positions, and
parents to be SunSmart role models.
Advise participants (and parents) about the SunSmart policy at registration and
encourage them to comply with it Woodberry & District Athletic Centre Inc. will review
the content of this policy annually to ensure it provides up to date and appropriate
guidelines for sun protection for members and supporters.
